Sept-October      
Dr. John Brown will be chairing a session at the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine 26th Annual Scientific Meeting in Melbourne, Australia in November. At the ACEP Scientific Assembly in early October, Dr. Renee Hsia won the 2008 Best Paper Award at the Research Forum. Five faculty members (Drs. Rachel Chin, Chris Fee, Ingrid Lim, Michelle Lin, Susan Promes) were invited to lecture and three faculty (Drs. Reena Duseja, Renee Hsia, Rob Rodriguez) presented research abstracts at the research forum. One of our 2nd year residents, Kennedy Hall presented a research abstract, as did two students, Kaija-Leena Romero and Deepa Ravikumar.

Hemal Kanzaria - R2 in Emergency Publishes a Commentary in THE LANCET on "Remedy at UCSF: a sustainable student-run initiative" Drs. Preston Maxim and Susan Promes, two of our Emergency Medicine
faculty, have been chosen by the Academy of Medical Educators to receive the
2009 Excellence in Teaching Award.
Our residency program director, Dr. Susan Promes, and Alan Gelb, have been selected by
The Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators as two of its newest
members.  Academy members are recognized as highly accomplished educators.
Ingrid Lim, UCSF Volunteer Faculty and Site Director for Kaiser San Francisco EM Rotation, named ACEP 2008 Scientific Assembly Rookie Speaker of the Year.

Dr. Beth Kaplan and Dr. Caitlin Bilotti were featured on the front page of the SF Chronicle 5-11-09 on HIV screening in the ED. Link Our interns WON the 2009 SimWars (simulation-based competition) at the SAEM national meeting. This is even more incredible since they competed against teams with senior residents. Our SimWars team featured Dr. Caitlin Bilotti, Dr. Eric Silman, and Dr. Jenny Wilson. Way to go! Dr. Chris Fee was appointed to the 2009-10 SAEM Guidelines Committee. Dr. Michelle Lin is the inaugural interviewee on the new Podcast series "EM:RAP Educator's Edition" on www.emrapee.com. Dr. Eric Silman authored an article on "iPhone Apps for Emergency Physicians" in ACEP New's Tricks of the Trade column. Dr. Chris Fee (UCSF) and Dr. Preston Maxim (SFGH) win the residency's 3rd Quarter Bedside Teaching Award.
Dr. Matt Lewin publishes about asymptomatic hypertension in the ED in Keio J Med. Dr. David Duong was accepted to the 2009-10 UCSF School of Medicine's Teaching Scholars Program.

Dr. Chris Fee publishes a web M&M commentary on the AHRQ website. Website Dr. Renee Hsia is awarded the prestigious Robert Wood Johnson Scholar award! Dr. Martine Sargent publishes in J of Trauma on unstable pelvic fractures and diagnostic utility of the pelvic ring stability exam. Dr. John Brown hosts a great Disaster Drill Table-Top Exercise at conference. Photos
Dr. Jeff Tabas and Dr. Michelle Lin lectured at the national AAEM conference in Phoenix, AZ. Dr. Hemal Kanzaria (PGY-1) was awarded the 2009 Graduation Teaching Award by the graduating UCSF medical students for exemplary teaching as a clinical instructor. Dr. Renee Hsia is awarded the prestigious UCSF Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI) Career Development Program award with 4-5 years of faculty support.
